Most wheel mistakes are geometry mistakes, not style mistakes, and you find out in the driveway with four boxes already open. This guide covers the two numbers that decide whether a wheel clears, and what to do when nobody publishes them.
Offset and backspacing, in plain language
Offset is how far the wheel's mounting face sits from the wheel's centerline, in millimeters.
- Positive: mounting face toward the street side. The wheel tucks in under the fender.
- Zero: mounting face right on the centerline.
- Negative: mounting face toward the brake side. The wheel pushes outward.
The bigger the negative number, the further out the wheel sits.
Backspacing describes the same geometry from the other end: the distance in inches from the mounting face to the back lip of the wheel. More backspacing pulls the wheel in toward the suspension. Less pushes it out.
Two ways of saying one thing. Manufacturers pick whichever they prefer, and in this catalog they do not agree. That is where people get burned.
Why a lift changes what fits
Your tire has to clear two zones. Inboard is tire against control arm, sway bar, frame rail, and crash bar; a wheel tucked in fights it. Outboard is tire against fender lip and flare; a wheel pushed out fights it.
A lift changes where all of that sits relative to the tire. That is why the requirement comes from the kit maker, not the wheel maker.
{{part:SUS-BDS-6LIFT-2126}} is our clearest example. BDS requires at least an 18 inch wheel and states stock 17 and 18 inch wheels cannot go back on. On an 18 inch wheel they recommend 5 to 5.5 inches of backspacing, with 5.5 called out for tire to frame crash bar clearance. Stock 20 inch wheels can be reused with a tire up to 305/60R20.

Read the lift row first
The wheel row tells you what the wheel is. The lift row tells you what you need.

{{part:RL-MAX33-1524}} carries the same ReadyLift spec. Notice ReadyLift speaks in offset while BDS and Cognito speak in backspacing, so shop in your kit's unit. Some rows publish only a ceiling: {{part:SUS-READYLIFT-6319340-1926}} lists a 35 inch maximum tire diameter and no offset.
How to read a wheel row before ordering
Wheel rows carry an offset range and a size list. That range is the most misread field here.
It is a family range, not a dial. A row showing negative 44 to positive 38 does not mean you can order anything in between. It means the lineup contains a negative 44 wheel and a positive 38 wheel, and you must pick one of them.

- {{part:WHL-AMERICANFORCE-SS}}: negative 73 to negative 25. All of them push out.
- {{part:WHL-BLACKRHINO-ARMORY}}: 6 and 6. One value, no choice.
- {{part:WHL-METHOD-MR305NV}}: negative 18 to positive 25, straddling zero.
- {{part:WHL-ICON-REBOUND}}: 6 to 16, a narrow near stock band.
Match that against your kit. If it asks for 0 offset like the ReadyLift rows do, a line whose entire range is positive 18 to positive 35 will never get you there.
Occasionally a row names a confirmed combination. {{part:WHL-FUEL-REBEL}} publishes negative 44 to positive 20 as a family, and its writeup notes the 20x10 at negative 18 is confirmed to clear Raptor fender flares. That is usable; a family range alone is not. And never compare offsets across truck types: dually wheels like {{part:WHL-FUELOFFROAD-FF19D-10LUG-450}} run negative 225 to negative 200.
Where the catalog publishes a real number, and where it does not

Not one wheel, tire, or spacer row carries a required offset or backspacing. The requirement lives on the lift row only.
Two gaps worth naming. {{part:WHL-ICONALLOYS-REBOUND}} has empty offset columns, but its writeup states it is an 18x9 at 0mm offset, so the number sits in prose where a filter will miss it. {{part:WHL-FUELOFFROAD-VECTOR-D579-8LUG}} publishes no offset and no size list, only the 8x165.1 bolt pattern, so you cannot plan clearance from it.
{{part:SUS-SUPERLIFT-6KING-2126}} is the most useful row here precisely because it refuses to publish. The only source found confused offset with backspacing, so no figure went out and the row tells you to call before ordering wheels. A guessed number costs you a set of wheels. No number costs you a phone call.
What a wheel spacer does and does not solve
{{part:WHLSP-AFE-610-30T001B-1820-30PS}} is the only spacer we carry: hub centric forged aluminum, 1.5 inches, listed on aFe's own F-150 vehicle page rather than matched by bolt pattern. A 2 inch version exists in the same line, and its install time reads COULD NOT VERIFY.
A spacer solves an inboard problem by pushing the wheel away from the control arm and frame. {{part:SUS-COGNITO-UCA-2125}} says so directly: narrower stock wheels may rub on that control arm, and a small spacer can help if you stay at stock tire width.
It does not solve an outboard problem. If the tire already touches the fender, a spacer moves it further in. It also does not fix a tire that is too tall, or the wrong bolt pattern.
Pushing the wheel out has a cost. {{part:WHL-METHOD-MR30521087518N-1722-67}} runs a negative 18 offset, and its writeup notes this loads the wheel bearings harder and raises the odds of rubbing, which is why it suits a leveled or lifted truck, not a stock one. Same goes for a spacer.
Rubbing, and what full lock tells you
Where it rubs tells you which number is wrong.
At full lock, steering turned all the way one direction, it is almost always inboard: the tire is hitting a control arm, sway bar end link, frame, or crash bar. That is a backspacing problem, and less backspacing or a spacer moves it away.
In a straight line over bumps, or at the front corner of the fender liner, it is outboard or diameter: too tall, too wide, or too far out. More backspacing or a smaller tire.
Trimming is a legitimate answer and the catalog says so. {{part:RL-BIGLIFT6-1520}} notes its 37 inch maximum tire may need trimming, and {{part:SUS-READYLIFT-6630321-2026-GMC}} notes Silverado and Sierra have different fender well openings, so minor trimming may be required.
What to skip
{{part:TIRE-GOODYEAR-DURATRAC}} at the stored size. This row carries a WRONG SIZE flag: the stored price is for a 31x10.50R15, a 15 inch tire that fits no 2011 to 2026 F-150. Skip until re-sourced.
A 35 inch tire on a stock truck. {{part:TIRE-NITTO-217040-1126-67}} says it outright: a 35 inch tire does not clear a stock Super Duty. Confirm lift height and wheel offset first.
The biggest size on the row. {{part:WHL-AMERICANFORCE-SS}} lists sizes up to 26x16. That is a size the manufacturer builds, not one that clears your truck.
Two last things
Many tire rows carry the same flag: changing tire diameter shifts speedometer and odometer accuracy, and recalibration is recommended for large changes such as 33 to 35 inch. {{part:TIRE-BFG-KO2-AT}}, {{part:TIRE-TOYO-ATIII}} and {{part:TIRE-FALKEN-WILDPEAK-AT3W}} all carry it.
Tire coverage rules, fender flare requirements, and DOT markings vary by state and this catalog does not track them. Nothing here is legal advice. If your build puts tread outside the fender, check your state's rules first.
The short version
- Find your lift kit's published wheel requirement first.
- If it publishes a number, buy to it, in that unit.
- If it publishes nothing, do not guess. Ask.
- Read a wheel row's offset range as a family range, then pick a size.
- Spacers fix inboard clearance, never outboard.
- Budget for a speedometer recalibration on a big diameter jump.
Every wheel, tire, and spacer row here is marked N/A for gains, because none of them make power. These are fitment parts. Judge them on how the truck sits and how it clears.
