A cold air intake replaces the factory airbox, filter and tubing with a larger, less restrictive setup that feeds the turbo more air. On a diesel this mostly shows up as quicker turbo spool and lower exhaust gas temperatures when you are working the truck, not as a big horsepower jump.

why this one — S&B seals the filter inside its own airbox so it pulls cool outside air instead of hot engine bay air, and this is one of the few 6.7L intakes with a CARB exemption (D-590-57), so it stays street legal in California on an F-250 or F-350. The honest catch: that exemption does not cover F-450 or F-550, and S&B publishes airflow percentages rather than a dyno number.
