On the L5P Duramax, the up-pipes are the short pipes connecting the exhaust manifolds to the turbo inlet. The factory pipes are narrow with tight bends. This PPE kit replaces both sides with heavier-gauge stainless steel pipes that PPE says have 46% more flow area than stock, which can mean a quicker-spinning turbo and lower exhaust gas temperatures.

why this one — PPE's up-pipe kit is one of the most established upgrades for the L5P Duramax and carries a CARB Executive Order number, so it's certified legal in California as well as every other state - unusual for a diesel exhaust part.

why no number is shown

The only quantified claim found is PPE's own '46% larger flow area over stock,' from the product description; no dyno-tested hp/tq figure is published for this part by PPE or the retailer checked.

heads up

CARB EO# D-701-41 per the retailer's own listing - legal for sale and use in California as well as every other state. 'Up-pipes' on this engine connect the exhaust manifolds to the turbo inlet, upstream of the DPF/catalyst, with no interaction with DPF/EGR/SCR hardware, so the DPF/EGR/DEF exclusion policy does not apply.
