The torque converter is the fluid coupling between the engine and the transmission. This one replaces the factory unit with a machined billet cover, billet apply piston and a billet CNC stator, which SunCoast says cuts turbine slip so less of your engine torque is wasted as heat under load.

why this one — The billet stator is what separates this from the cheaper SunCoast Category 1 converter, and it is the one to buy if you tow heavy often rather than occasionally. At 2,050 dollars it is 155 dollars more than the Category 1. The real cost is not the part though: a converter swap means the transmission comes out, so do it at the same time as any other transmission work instead of as a standalone job.
