Buy at Amazon →A small shock absorber that bolts onto your tailgate and slows the last part of the drop so the gate does not slam down. It uses the cables the truck already has. Bolts on in about ten minutes and nothing has to be drilled. This is the version for the older GM trucks.
why this one — Covers the older Silverado and Sierra, which the newer part does not fit. Cheapest of the three Dee Zee assists and very well reviewed.
