A downpipe is the section of pipe right after the turbochargers that carries exhaust away from the engine. On this truck's twin-turbo six-cylinder, the factory downpipes and midpipe are narrow and add backpressure. This kit replaces both with larger stainless steel pipes so the engine can push exhaust out more freely. It keeps the catalytic converters (the emissions device that cleans exhaust) in place, so this is a catted setup, not an emissions-delete part.
