A cold air intake replaces the factory airbox and filter with a bigger filter in a sealed housing that draws cooler air from outside the engine bay. The sealed box matters more on a diesel than the noise does, because the filter is what stands between road dust and a very expensive turbocharger.
why this one — The EcoDiesel has been badly served in this catalog and this is the intake actually built for it rather than a HEMI part with a diesel label. S&B quotes 99.36% filtration efficiency alongside the airflow gain, which is the number that matters on a turbo diesel. Two real limits before you order: S&B publishes no horsepower claim for it at all, only airflow, and S&B states the part cannot be shipped to California and is not street legal in all states.
